New Players
LOOKING TO PLAY RUGBY? Can’t wait to put your boots back on? Interested in finding out more? Then contact us and we’ll answer all your questions. But to get you started, below is some information about BWRFC most new players want to know…
I’ve never played before/haven’t played in a long time, can I still join?
Yes! BWRFC welcomes all players who are interested in playing competitive DI rugby! We field two teams to provide all players with the opportunity to play. Our coaches, captains, and all veteran players are always around to help with the basics. If you’re ready to work hard you will find yourself falling in love with rugby – for the first time or all over again.
When is practice?
That depends on the time of year, but especially during our Fall and Spring seasons we practice two nights a week and try to stick to a Tuesday and Thursday evening schedule. Our practice times are flexible – check the practice info page on the website, or e-mail to get the most up-to-date information.
Where is practice?
Field space is often hard to find in Boston, so we are also flexible with our location, practicing wherever we can find a field with lights. While we are often found at Moakley Field in South Boston, or English High School in Jamaica Plain, we practice wherever we can find space – so e-mail for the most recent practice locations or check the practice info page. We try to keep our practice locations T-accessible, but we also organize carpools – so please let us know if you need to find a way to practice.
What do I need for practice?
All you need for practice is general workout clothes (clothes you don’t mind getting dirty), water, a mouthguard which you can pick up at any major sporting goods store, rugby shorts and cleats if you have them (molded cleats not metal studs for when we practice on turf) or sneakers, and a willingness to work hard and have a good time doing it. If you have never played before, don’t worry about not having all the gear, pick up a moutguard and give practice a try.
More questions/concerns?
Send us an e-mail and we’ll find an answer for you!
Looking forward to meeting you on the pitch!
“I am a member of a team and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.”
