Cape Cod 7s Tournament
Save the date – The 27th Cape Cod 7s Tournament will be on July 21st, 2012! The theme is Battle of the Ages so in order to honor the world ending as the Mayans predicted, we encourage teams to dress as Vikings in 1200, Spartan Warriors, Crusades, Aztecs and more!
Every year BWRFC hosts one of the largest women’s sevens tournments in the country and this year it will be an NRU 7s Qualifier event!. What distinguishes the Cape Cod 7s Rugby Tournament from most of the other summer tournaments on the East coast is the mix of fierce competition (several of the country’s 4 top-ranked women’s teams every year) and chaotic fun (teams are strongly encouraged to play in costume!).
Each year we carefully select a theme to which participating teams are “required” to conform – either in their on-field attire or in a skit performed at the post-tournament party. Past themes have included “Lost 45s,” “The 70s,” “Cartoon Capers”, “Olympics”, and “Movie Madness.” Our tournament participants are as diverse as our themes. We have college teams, women’s club teams, teams of “retired” players who have decided to dust off their boots, and a few teams united by some pretty odd commonalities: they all play the same position; they all have the same name; they all have the same color hair.

The 2012 tournament will be held on Saturday, July 21st, in Eastham, MA and the theme is “Battle of the Ages” so be ready to dress as your favorite creepy character such as Vikings, Crusades, Spartan Warriors, others. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, Cape Cod is a popular New England vacation spot; Eastham is located on Cape Cod about 2.5 hours southeast of Boston and a half hour from Provincetown (the tip of Cape Cod and the location of some excellent bars, shops and beaches).
The tournament is a one-day event with competitive, social, college, and high school divisions. Teams of all levels are welcome to participate. Each team is guaranteed 3 matches. However, for teams who play through to the finals, the number can be far higher! Teams are encouraged to play in costume and our post-tournament social features a skit competition nearly as fierce as what we see on the pitch.
